JAKARTA, April 15 (Xinhuanet) -- The process of counting the ballots in East Timor began in Dili on Monday morning, according to reports reaching here.

In a calm and peaceful atmosphere, hundreds of thousands of East Timorese headed to the polls on Sunday to vote in the territory's first president election. About 86 percent of 430,000 registered voters had posted their ballots in Sunday's president election.
