Great Canal Economic and Cultural Zone in CHD

 
 

Location

The Area is located in the confluence of Ziya River, South Canal and Haihe River in Hongqiao District, and we call it San Cha Kou, that is, Three Rivers¡¯Mouth. The planned area is 636,700 sqm from the planned extension of Xiqing Road in the north to South Canal in the south; and from Ziya River in the east to Hebei Street in the west.

Background

The Area is the birthplace of the city backing on San Cha Kou, which is the headstream of the River. There are many stories and folk tales about the area and San Tiao Shi in the center of the area was the birthplace of Chinese Modern Industry. This area has huge potentiality of development because 70 percent of the total are shabby and dangerous houses, basically one to two storey brick-and-wood structures.

Planning Intention

Great Canal Economic and Cultural Zone is a strategic economic development asset and an essential part of the waterfront. By taking advantages of traditional, cultural and natural Resourcess, the regeneration shall proceed with specific waterfront economic, business and tourism development opportunities for the area, making the area a famous, attractive, memorable and more livable place. As the area should be a core of CHD in Haihe Waterfront, which extends Tianjin urban historical context, a layout pattern should be proposed indicating the spatial connections between the areas of Da Bei Temple, Gu Yi Street, Da Hu Tong and Guan Shang area by analyzing the urban structure and tissues. Therefore, the regeneration of the area will promote common development of the surrounding areas. Open space, easy access to the river, road and traffic system should be distributed rationally in order to to strengthen natural and humanity character of the place and create a new image in the headstream. Modern structure, materials and techniques should be applied in architectural concept design, and modern forms with traditional symbols should be adapted to embody the modern character.

Contents of Construction

Flexible and mixed use of economic, business, tourism as well as housing are recommended in this area except for two projects below that must be built:

1. China Modern Industrial Museum: total floor area is 10,000 sqm. The use is mainly exhibition.

2. Tianjin Urban History Museum: total floor area is about 5000 sqm. The use is mainly exhibition.
