Location
Being a key section in upstream of the Haihe River, the area is located in Nankai district. The site area in planning is 224,200sqm, from Tongbei Road in the north to Shuigao Street in the South and from Haihe River in the east to Dongma Road in the west.
Background
The area used to be one of earliest water transport docklands in Tianjin, which is the busier area of commerce and trade in history. There exists a famous attraction for local and overseas tourist named¡°ancient cultural street¡±in the precinct. Yuan Huang Ge and Tian Hou Temple are two conserved historic cultural relics in city level.
Planning Intention
As Ancient Cultural Street rebuilt in 1980¡¯s is one of the great success in the renovation and redevelopment. The whole block must conserve the existing urban pattern and tissue of traditional Chinese layout. The lanes and courtyard house with Tianjin local feathers should be preserved at best. By expanding Tian Hou Temple, renovating Yu Huang Ge and rebuilding Haihe Lou., the area will be built as a flourish, cultural and tourism area with fine landscape and distinctive architectural style. The planning and design should pay more attention on the waterfront and add more opportunities to connect with surrounding areas, especially the Old City in the west.
Contents of Construction
Yuan Huang Ge and Tian Hou Temple must be preserved. Ancient Cultural Street and existing roads pattern of Gong Nan Street and Gong Bei Street must be reserved.
The landmark of Haihe Lou (one of¡°Ten Key Buildings¡±defined in Tianjin Haihe Wiverfront Comprehensive Development Plan) and Shui Gao must be built.
