In his recent visit to Tianjin, Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao says, "To expedite Binhai New Area development and opening is an important move to make in the overall development plan for the areas encircling Bohai sea and the whole country. Making this move successful will be of strategic importance not only to achieving Tianjin's long-term development, but also to promoting the regional economy, implementing the national overall development strategy and realizing the goal of well-to-do society on a comprehensive basis.

From 24th to 26th, Prime Minister Wen physically visits such enterprises as Tianjin Steel Pipes, FAW-Toyota, Tianjin Port and Sewage Treatment Plant. He learns about the operations of these companies and meets with frontline staff and model staff. He presides over a meeting exchanging views with the responsible persons from TEDA, TEDA Bonded Area and enterprises. During his visit, Prime Minister Wen also visits the Customs, communities and schools to learn about local life and education.

The Prime Minister listens to the report by Tianjin Municipal Government on the progress of Binhai New Area's construction. "Binhai New Area has many advantages, including better geographic location, rich natural resources, easier accessibility, a sound industrial base as well as an impressive portfolio of talent," says Wen. "Tianjin must grasp the opportunities, bring its advantages into full play and be committed to encouraging, supporting and promoting the reform, opening and development of Binhai New Area. Here will be a modern new area oriented towards northeast Asia, supported by the trio of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, serving areas encircling Bohai Sea and targeting markets of "northeast China, North China and northwest China."
