Average life span reaches age 76.71 in Tianjin


The average life expectancy of residents in Tianjin, a leading port city in north China, has reached age 76.71, 1.57 years longer than that five years ago.

With the steady improvement of the health of locals, the average life span is expected to reach age 78 in the next five years, according to the local health bureau.

The bureau said Tianjin has been among the first three Chinese cities to report the longest average life span and the lowest death rate of pregnant and lying-in women, and the lowest death rate of infants.

The city's death rate of pregnant and lying-in women has dropped to 12.5 per 100,000 and the death rate of infants has dropped to 7.27 per thousand, representing decreases of 31.51 percent and 22.66 percent from the respective figures five years ago.
