(Tianjin Daily)Today outstanding Sinopec Tianjin Million Tons Ethylene Integrated Refining and Petrochemical Project officially started to be constructed, and it is planned to be completed and put into operation in 2009; the lower reach of industry chain project and infrastructure project supporting to the main body of the project shall be started in succession, and built and completed in the same pace with the main body project. At that time, the annual total ethylene production scale of Tianjin PetroChemical shall amount to 1.20 million tons, oil refining capacity can reach 12.50 million tons, and each year, it can produce 12.00 million tons of petroleum, petrochemical and chemical fiber products with high quality, high specifications and wide coverage.

The construction of this important project in our city shall result in the chain reaction of the corresponding infrastructure construction of chemical industry and ports and etc, thus, reaching a new round of development and opening up climax in Binhai New Area. Experts say this project shall enhance the economic development of Binhai Area in the following five aspects:

First, it can promote the structure upgrade of chemical industry. In accordance with deployment and arrangement of NDRC, our city complied The Tianjin Outline of the Eleventh Five-Year Plan for National-Level Petrochemical Industrial Base Development 2005~2015, in which, it is clearly put forward to use such basic raw materials as “alkatriene”, “terphenyl” and etc furnished by ethylene refining and petrochemical project, to emphasize on developing the four leading industry chains including polyolefine plastics, polyester chemical fiber light textile, carbon black tyres synthetic rubber and fine chemical, and build the four industry chains into the brand industry chains with highest scale, highest level, newest categories, deepest manufacturing depth, highest comprehensive utility rate, longest products chains, broadest market, low energy consumption, and high added value;

Second, it can establish the aggregation effect of social economy. The completion of the project will build a social environment structure system of petrochemical industry in Binhai New Area, and promote the development of the whole chemical industry.
