At 11:08 on May 2, the 3200-cubic-meter blast furnace in the new Tianjin Steel was fired and produced the first molten iron at 4:59 on the morning of May 3 after 17 hours and 51 minutes of smelting. Up to now, the project of moving Tianjin Steel eastwards, which is among the key projects symbolizing the transit to east strategy of downtown industries and a new round of reforming and regrouping events in Tianjin¡¯s industry and has attracted wide attention from the citizens, has been entirely accomplished and put into operation after three and a half years of construction. Thus, a domestic-leading modern iron and steel joint enterprise at the world -class level, possessing large-scale technological equipment, continuous production process, high-efficiency energy utilization and effective environmental protection, stands grandly in Binhai New Area and becomes another new economic growing point for Tianjin City.
It is reported that before the 3200-cubic-meter blast furnace was put into operation, a 2000-cubic-meter blast furnace for sintering has already been built in the iron smelting system, and three converters, four fineries and four continuous casting production lines in the steel manufacturing system have been built and put into operation.
As an old state-owned enterprise with a long history of more than seventy years, Tianjin Steel once contributed a lot to the development of national iron and steel industry as well as the local economic development. However, the enterprise, located in the downtown areas, was still following the backward iron-smelting and steel-making techniques, which caused low quality in products, high production cost and serious pollution. All this has curbed the further development of the enterprise. Under such circumstances, Tianjin Committee of the CPC and Tianjin People¡¯s Government have made a decision to move the enterprise eastwards, so as to entirely eliminate the outdated techniques, fundamentally solve the pollution problem and seek for a wider development space, and improve the overall competitiveness in iron and steel industry of the city. Zhang Lichang, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Party Secretary of Tianjin Committee of the CPC, stressed during his investigation tour that the project of moving Tianjin Steel eastwards has attracted wide attention from all sectors of the society. The project is closely related to the development of Tianjin¡¯s iron and steel industry and must be well done.
Tianjin Committee of the CPC and Tianjin People¡¯s Government paid great attention to the project of moving Tianjin Steel eastwards and have listed it as one of the key projects symbolizing the transit to east strategy of downtown industries and a new round of reforming and regrouping events in Tianjin¡¯s industry. During project construction, Tianjin Steel, in line with the scientific approach to development, broke through the conventional mode of ¡°rolling development¡± in iron and steel enterprises, proposed the super-conventional development strategy of improving its competitiveness within one step. Adhering to the development concept that high level is a fortune while low level is a burden, Tianjin Steel has successively introduced the word -class technological equipment from Italy, Germany, the U.S, Luxemburg and Switzerland. The 2000-cubic-meter blast furnaces and 3200-cubic-meter blast furnaces were built up in the iron smelting system, and three 120-ton large-scale converters, four 120-ton steel ladle fineries and VD furnaces, four round billet and slab billet continuous casting machines and other supporting facilities were built in the steel making system. Adopting the large-scale, continuous and automatic techniques, the production equipment realizes hot charge and hot delivery, continuous casting and rolling as well as one-time heating to final production in the production process, thus entirely eliminating backward production techniques and making the old enterprise experience a thorough transformation.
