TEDA's total planned area is 33 square kilometers. In addition, TEDA has also established three satellite development areas in the neighborhood: Yixian Scientific and Industrial Zone, Microelectronics Industrial Area and Chemical Industry Area. In the northeast of TEDA, the National Customs Bureau has created an "Exports Processing Zone." Currently, the business canvassing and administration is the sole responsibility of TEDA Investment Holding Company. The "Exports Processing Zone" is the within the jurisdiction of TEDA Administration Committee.

In the following organizational chart of TEDA, TEDA Administration Committee, as an organization affiliated with the municipal government of Tianjin, fulfills the administrative functions in TEDA. TEDA Investment Holding Company is responsible for all the operations of all public utilities. The other administration organizations are directly under their respective law enforcing functions of the state.
