A senior Chinese official called on local authorities to scientifically implement the nation's 12th Five-Year plan (2011-2015) and to enhance exploration of new forms of social management. Zhou Yongkang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks in the northern port city of Tianjin during a two-day visit that concluded on Tuesday.
During a site inspection of a low-rent housing project, Zhou called for increased efforts to include more residents in low-rent housing policies and to successfully execute the central government's plans for constructing affordable housing.
Zhou visited Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology of Chinese Academy of Sciences as well as the National Supercomputing Center of Tianjin, both located in Tianjin's Binhai New District. He said efforts should be made to industrialize the findings of these research centers.
He said the Binhai New District has developed into one of China's most vibrant and promising economic development areas, and encouraged local authorities to test new ideas and make more innovations to optimize industrial structures.
During Zhou's visit to a local notary public office, he urged staff to improve services safeguarding social equality and justice.
