Profile of Urban Cooperation and Development Forum



"Urban Cooperation and Development Forum" will be held in Tianjin, China from October 11 to 13, 2002. This forum is jointly sponsored by UNDP,¡¡CPAFFC(Chinese People's Association For Friendship With Foreign Countries), China Association of Mayors£¬and Tianjin Municipal People's Government.

The theme of this forum is Urban Cooperation and Development in the 21st century.

Urban development in different countries has both common and unique features. The cities have witnessed both general laws and diversities due to their different social and environmental conditions in their development. Therefore, The participants of this forum will be mayors of cities which have sister ties with Tianjin city, mayors of famous international cities, experts on urban development, former foreign political celebrity who has great vision on urban development, honored guests from Hong Kong and Macao, and nearly 100 mayors from other Chinese cities.

The topics cover: complementary advantages of central cities and growth of the continuous city belt; city planning and construction of functional areas construction, port economy; city development and the improvement of investment environment; and city cultural progress and city's character.

Held in Tianjin with thorough discussions on urban development, this forum will certainly enrich its content and vitalize the creativeness in urban development and management. Tianjin, an important economic center of north China, serves for Beijing economic circle. Discussing the topic of complementary advantages of central cities and growth of the continuous city belt at this forum is conducive to complementary advantages among big cities in north China and promote their common development.
